Durgam Cheravu Lake Bridge

June 6, 2025

This remarkable bridge spans over the existing Durgam Cheruvu Lake, boasting an impressive main span of 233.85 meters. It holds the distinction of being the longest main span Extradosed Bridge in India and ranks among the top 10 longest main span Extradosed Bridges worldwide. Additionally, it holds the record for being the world’s longest main span precast segmental concrete Extradosed Bridge.

Designed to accommodate 3+3 lanes of traffic in both directions, the bridge features a spacious deck with an overall width of 25.960 meters. The bridge’s structure consists of a single plane of cables and integral pylons. Its superstructure takes on a unique fish belly shape, providing a wider deck for enhanced functionality and aesthetics.

Unlike symmetrical bridge designs, this bridge showcases an asymmetric configuration, presenting technical challenges such as maintaining a back span to main span ratio of 0.41, controlling uplift at the back span, and managing pylon displacement. On either side of the carriageway, footpaths have been thoughtfully incorporated, offering pedestrians a delightful view of the scenic lake below.
