October 19, 2025

The project involved the construction of 11 stadiums across various sports complexes in Guwahati, Assam, specifically for hosting the 33rd National Games in 2007. This time-sensitive project encompassed the development of several key facilities. These included a main athletic stadium with a capacity of 35,000, equipped with a football field. Additionally, an air-conditioned indoor stadium with a capacity of 3,500 was constructed to accommodate boxing and other sporting events. The Sarusajai location featured an aquatic complex with a capacity of 1,000, specifically designed for swimming events.

Furthermore, the Sonapur sports complex included an indoor stadium and a velodrome with a capacity of 700. Stadia for Kho Kho, Kabaddi, and Archery events were also built, incorporating a 75-meter long archery range complete with a pavilion, player’s change room, and a dope test room. The Bhetapara hockey stadium, with a capacity of 2,000, and an indoor stadium at the R.G. Barua sports complex in Ulubari were also part of the project. Additionally, a tennis complex and a shooting gallery were constructed.

All of the stadiums were constructed to meet international standards, ensuring they were capable of hosting world-class games.
