The Butterfly Arch Cablenet Bridge Over River Mutha

June 4, 2025

The proposed Deccan metro station bridge is envisioned as a symbol of urban revitalization and regeneration, designed to attract a high volume of foot traffic to the rapid transit system. Taking inspiration from the traditional Maratha Mavala Pagdi (headgear), this bridge will span across the Mutha River, connecting the West End’s elevated walkway to the Deccan metro station and the East End’s Riverside road adjacent to NC Kelkar Road.

With a span of 105 meters, the bridge features an 18-meter high bowstring arc and an 8-meter wide concrete walkway and viewing deck on the west end. The bridge’s geometric design strikes a balance between the human scale and the city’s scale, creating a monumental presence that establishes a new sense of place along the river trail.

To enhance its visual appeal, the bridge will be adorned with LED lighting that can be dynamically adjusted to display various colors and light levels. This interplay of light and color will create a captivating and ever-changing visual experience for pedestrians and passersby.
